Specimen Requirement
1 Lavender EDTA whole blood (4 mL), must send DEDICATED sample.
Label specimen tube with patient’s first and last names and medical record number (or date of birth if medical record number is not available)
If ANTIBODY SCREEN is ordered with ABO/RH a SECOND, DEDICATED sample must be sent.

Clinical Use
Determination of ABO blood group and Rh type for transfusion candidates. Group and typing of expectant mothers and newborns may indicate potential for ABO hemolytic disease of the newborn. Rho(D) typing is used to determine Rh immune globulin candidacy for prenatal and postpartum patients.
