Specimen Requirements
Title
Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) Isoenzymes
Specimen Requirement
Collect SST/2.0 mL serum, allow to clot for 45 minutes, centrifuge and send.
Methodology
Electrophoresis
Stability
Room temp: 7 days, Refrigerated: 3 days, Frozen: Unstable
Reference Range
The reference range is determined by the performing laboratory and will show on the report.
Turnaround
3-6 days
Clinical Use
The LD isoenzyme pattern is useful to evaluate the source of elevated LD activity. LD isoenzyme elevation associations: LD1: germ cell tumors; LD1>LD2: renal or myocardial infarction, megaloblastic anemia, hemolysis; LD3: platelet destruction, reactive, lymphadenopathy, lymphoma, lymphocytosis, pulmonary infarction, pneumonia, advanced cancer, acute pancreatitis; LD4, LD5: various solid tumors; LD5: primary liver disease, liver anoxia, muscle injury or dystrophy; All forms: renal disease, carcinomatosis, collagen vascular vascular disease, overwhelming sepsis, DIC
